The Truth Around the Lack of Productivity

Do you think the main reason why you or a team member lacks productivity is due to lack of information? Or is it something deeper than that?

I have worked with hundreds of clients, and being in business myself for over 19 years, I have often thought about this topic – Productivity.  There is so much available information on the internet today for everyone to access. Why do you think people will do courses and not act? What holds us back from acting?

I often hear conversations when I meet people, about them signing up for a course several months ago, and that they need to complete this course before they move on. I can guarantee that 95% of these people will have the same conversation with me in a few months’ time, and still not completed that course. Sometimes we need to get to the real issue here. We can make excuses to justify our lack of action, however this also decreases our ability to achieve our goals within business and personal lives. With this mindset we remain in the problem and not the solution.

Focus, Habits and The Right Tools

In my perspective having  productivity, requires focus, habits and tools. That is, it in a nutshell. It is not about doing yet another course and simply filing the information away and doing nothing with it.

HABITS

Drill Down to the Real Truth

Lets go a bit deeper, Focus, Habits and tools. There is a good technique that I use with my clients helping them to gain more insights and clarity when they feel stuck.

Get to the Real Issue - Ask Why?

Step by Step:

1.

Take out a piece of paper – Create three columns. 1st Column right Focus, 2nd Column right Habits, 3rd column right Tools.

2.

Now ask yourself this question – Lets work with Focus first – Ask yourself Why do you lack focus? – Write down your answer?

Example: I lose focus because I don’t know where to begin?

 A
3.

Ask yourself – Why do you not know where to begin?

Example answer – Because I have so many options and I am creative, and this overwhelms me.

4.

Ask yourself – Why does that overwhelm me?

Example answer: I simply don’t know where to start.

For this example you have to address the real issue here of not knowing where to start, instead of just going onto another productivity course.  Address the real issue not the presenting issue.
