I was involved in a conversation earlier this week around the importance of soft skills. It was one of those conversations that you go away thinking about. The skillsets that we were discussing were Edification, Attitude, Decision Making, Recovery ability, inverting yourself and the ability to add value to others.
What is edification?
When you tell the person you are speaking with about someone else, can they look forward to meeting them because you have “talked them up”? How well do you edify others around you? When you tell the person you are speaking with about someone else, would they be looking forward to meeting them with anticipation? Are you known to be the “good finder” or are you better known as the “nit-picker?” It’s another one of those attitude choices, isn’t it?
Great leaders are known to always find an opportunity to build up others. Whether you lead a team within an organization or a solo business owner these soft skills are extremely important. Imagine working in a team and having business colleagues that focuses on Edification instead of looking for fault within others.
