The New Direction for Networking

September 27, 2016

Everything is changing in the business world these days. I have recently gone back into my business after having a few years off. It has been an exciting transition and one thing that I have noticed is the changes that are occurring constantly within the way we do business today. I often get invitations to have one-on-one coffee meeting with people who would like to connect with me.  In the past I would say “yes” and after having a lot of catch up meetings I often thought there must be a better way of connecting. I like to use my time wisely and more efficient, and also know the importance of having and building strong relationships.

Network – OR No Work – Why is networking so important anyway?

It’s not WHAT you know, but WHO you know”. This is so true in business. If you want a really successful business, then you need to have a great source of relevant connections in your network that you can call on when you need them.

Networking provides you with a great source of connections, and really opens the door to talk to highly influential people that you wouldn’t otherwise be able to easily talk to or find.

It’s not just about who you are networking with directly either – that person will already have a network you can tap into as well.

Networking Hubs

Recently I was invited into a new way of networking. It is called a networking hub. This hub allows you to invite and grow your own network in a venue that is already organized for you. Having given this opportunity to explore a new way of doing things, I went along to this networking hub.  I always like to check things out before I commit myself, and now I am fully convinced that this is the way to network.

It is an extremely powerful and supportive environment, that encourages, educates and connects people. I like this concept as I can catch up with my network face-to-face on a weekly basis in an environment that is educational and motivational. Every week I listen to great speakers who pass on their wisdom to the audience. By inviting my connections to these meetings I am adding value to them as a business owner and at the same time getting to build in-depth relationships.

Networking isn’t trying to connect to someone to just try and sell your services. I experience frequently and walk away feeling disconnected instead of being connected. No-body likes being sold to.

If you are interested in doing your networking differently than just get in touch with me and I can invite you into the next meeting. I am always looking for new connections and making long term relationships that have depth.
